Kathy blew her frizzy hair out of her face for the third time. The steam from the potions she had been brewingâcoupled with the fact that she had had to run out to the dining room and freeze the Marsdens twice after her magic wore offâhad melted away all of the time and effort she had put into her appearance.
Oh well, she thought to herself. What difference does it really make if we canât reverse this and the Marsdens find out weâre witches anyway?
Relieved to be done creating the two different potions on her own, Kathy bottled each of them up and carried the vials out into the dining room to rejoin her sister. She would worry about cleaning up the dishes for the potion later, even though the foul stench wafted throughout the house. After all, she had already made a mess of the kitchen when she pulled out all the potions pots and pans to inspect them earlier. What was another mess to top off the evening?
âAll set?â Samantha asked from the table. The older sister was hunched over a notepad, several wads of balled up paper scattered the floor around her.
âI think so. Hoheshully they actually work.â Kathy set the vials on the table.
âWell, one of them is for you, so youâre the one who has to worry the most.â
âAnd the other is shor the shather of your child,â Kathy replied. âSo weâre equally inwested. Actually, Stewen has a higher risk of hawing ewen nore side eshects since you whihhed uh that rewersal in a natter of ninutes.â
Samantha waved her hand at that statement. âItâs all just a matter of putting in the same basic components and adding a few extras to do what you want it to do.â
âOh, so sinhle.â Kathy rolled her eyes. âI hated ewery ninute of wrewing that hotion.â
âAnd you think Iâm faring any better with these spells?â
âWhat do you hawe so shar?â Kathy peered over her sisterâs shoulder to read what she had on the notepad. âHmm.â
âTerrible, right? The grammar is all wrong.â
âI nean, thatâs not really a wig issue. Itâs nagic, not rocket science. Wut I think youâre doing too nuch.â
âToo much?â Samantha asked. âI want to make sure that thereâs no wiggle room for errors! This is my boss!â
âYes, Iân wery aware of who he is,â Kathy muttered. âLook, just keeh the shirst two lines and I think that will do it.â
âAre you sure?â
âYeah. It states exactly what you want it to do. Wesides, half of the spell is the intention of the caster. Thatâs why sonetines hershectly good shells still go wrong. Ish the caster doesnât know what they truly want it to do, then the hower wehind the shell is held wack, so to sheak.â
âInteresting. Should we cast it together for some extra oomph?â
Kathy shrugged. âCouldnât hurt. I should hrowawly get rid of the weak shirst, so I can use ny real woice and not this quacking one.â She reached for the vial and then paused.
âWhatâs the matter?â Samantha asked.
